Nobody waters her. That is the first thing you notice, even before you notice the roses. She stands there with her own watering can, tilted over her own body, because she stopped waiting for someone else to do it.

And the strange part is, it works. Where the water falls, something opens. A bud where there was nothing yesterday. Leaves where there was only skin.

Joyce Lee paints what every gardener already knows but never says out loud. Whatever you water, grows. Whatever you ignore, dries up. And the garden was never outside. It was you, the whole time.
