Celia Robertson is a successful corporate attorney known at work as the Ice Queen. She structures her life around discipline, control and long working hours, while secretly releasing her tension as a dominatrix at Club Surrender, a private women-only BDSM club. With her firm and the club both closed for Christmas, Celia faces two weeks alone with nothing to distract her from the emotional emptiness of her carefully ordered life.

Lanie is a warm-hearted social worker struggling to survive on a modest salary in expensive Seattle. She is spending Christmas alone while caring for Arthur, her friends’ enormous and badly trained Irish Wolfhound puppy. During a chaotic walk, Arthur tangles Lanie around a lamp post, crashes into Celia and sends Celia’s coffee flying.

The women meet again when Lanie temporarily moves into the apartment directly across from Celia’s. Celia initially complains about Lanie’s loud Christmas music, but the confrontation turns into dinner, a movie and an unexpectedly intense kiss. The attraction is immediate, despite their different personalities, lifestyles and ages.

One month later, Lanie is effectively living with Celia, and they are preparing to move in together officially. Celia introduces her to Club Surrender, where Lanie discovers that she enjoys some public and voyeuristic play. The story ends with both women declaring their love and agreeing that the club will be an occasional shared experience rather than the foundation of their relationship.
