Description
After repeated petty offences, Lara is offered a choice between prison and joining a government program that matches women with men living in newly established Pioneer Towns. She expects the arrangement to be temporary and hopes to leave with enough compensation to rebuild her life.
Her assigned partner is Sheriff Wade, an older and highly traditional authority figure. Their immediate attraction is complicated by the settlement’s strict rules, a mandatory medical assessment and Wade’s belief that discipline should form part of their domestic relationship.
As Lara begins questioning what she truly wants, Wade realizes that he no longer views their arrangement as temporary. The book ends before they marry or make a permanent decision, leaving Lara’s future and formal training for the next instalment.
